Fri Nov 4th Third week over, fourth week running, Tashi is not even a month and I can see him fitting into one month diapers in a week so. Lifts head every so slightly? Check. Looks around, remains inquisitive? Check. Enjoys looking at picture books? Check! Smiles? Not as yet, but the occasional smile (probably by mistake) is a gem to be preserved.

I think his Vikram Seth’s days are over (Golden Gate doesn’t take him to his dreamland as surely as it did before), though he definitely enjoys the verse. So much so, i’ve taken to trying rhyme everything! It is difficult, but with practice it becomes a bit easier (not better quality). I’ve taken to speaking in Bengali and English so that he’s exposed to more words. He doesn’t quite follow fingers and never turns to my calling voice. So many things to do with our little Tashi!

Today I heard a talk “On Computational Thinking, Inferential Thinking and Data Science” by Micheal Jordan. The talk attempted to bridge the computational approach (infer something about a ‘big data’ sample) and the statistical thinking (infer something about the population from which the big data sample came from). Deeply mathematical, it made me feel nostalgic for grad school seminars and sad acceptance that i dont understand shit anymore …
